Día de los Muertos Summer Film Series 2022

Dear Young Cinephiles,

If you are receiving this message, then you have been formally invited to participate in the inaugural DdlMFF Summer Film Series for Teens, Young Adults, and all Film Enthusiast young at heart.
This is the Summer of PG-13. You have most certainly seen a lot of good movies. Movies with family and friends. Great movies from Disney and super heroes. And classics that your parents showed you. And maybe even some “R” rated movies and movies with some foul language and the like.

You have been selected for this program because you are at the age to watch these films at 13 or above.
Or if you are a bit younger, then you have had parental guidance and approval to watch these movies. Not all movies are PG-13 though. Some are PG, G, or even R. But most we watched when we were kids, with the more lax PG rating or despite the R rating.

Dia de los Muertos Film Festival - Summer Film Series 2022

Note:
These films do not need to be watched in any particular order, but watched from top to bottom or however you like or to cherry pick. There are 51 movies:
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls565659900/

Please create an imdb.com account to track these moves and check off the list once you have viewed the movie.
For successful completion of this class, please watch at least 70% of the movies on the list or 35 movies. But please strive to complete all if you have the time and love for movies.
This may mean a sacrifice on watching normal regular TV, cable, favorite shows. But hopefully this will instill a love and appreciation for film.

Notice that the imdb.com list will show you were you can watch and stream the moves form, Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. If you don’t have these accounts, then you can go to your local library and put a digital hold on the titles to pick up at your convenience. Most can be watched for free this way, as some are more challenging to get than others in this time of digital media. (Please contact me for other torrent routes to download these titles.)

To get the most out of this experience, ideally it would be wise to watch each title in one sitting, Undistracted from phones, noises or extra lighting. Think of a movie theatre experience a la the Alamo Drafthouse, shhh.
To watch movies together with others virtually, please set up a watch party.

Afterwards, if you would like to write up a brief summation of the film or what it meant to you, please submit those to this email address.
If you see a title that would be a great addition to this list, please send to the same email for future inclusion for next years Summer Film Series. However, the titles selected here were selected because our family may have already viewed the title.

Sincerely,
Uncle “Traveling” Matt

Día de los Muertos Film Festival 2015

For those that have expressed interest in attending our 3rd Annual horror movie night!
However, the forecasters were right and even more so…

Dia de los Muertos Film Festival 2015

Well there’s floodin’ down in Texas, and we want all to be safe in their homes and on the roads and pray for others affected by the flood waters.

Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday to celebrate the circle of life. It is our intentions to observe what is known to us as The Day of the Dead, as well as our own Halloween, and celebrate these in film.

This started out as watching horror movies alone at home on Halloween Night, after putting candy fueled children to bed. Too scared to continue to watch these movies alone, it was my intention to have a gathering to watch these with family and friends.

The outdoor projection screening is the most special to enjoy these sort of films. If it is dry enough on Sunday, we may be able to hold this event on the actual Día de los Muertos day. And could start the screenings an hour earlier, due to Day Light Savings.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) 2015 begins on Sunday, November 1

Will let those know that have RSVPed if we still plan to hold the event on Sunday when it gets closer. If not, then please come out and enjoy this event with us next year!

Día de los Muertos Film Festival Part III, on Sunday Evening, the actual Dia de los Muertos Day of the Dead, day!

Please RSVP, if you are able to attend.

  • Kids Events most likely canceled due to a new soggy sod lawn.
  • Costume Contest
  • Popcorn machine
  • Keg of Shiner Wicked Ram IPA – (Released less than 2 weeks ago)

Film Screening Schedule

Times moved earlier one hour due to DST.

Please contact me directly if you might like to come over late at night tonight or Sunday and watch as an indoor screening

New Nikon D610 DSLR Camera

Today, our new Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only) arrived that we had purchased online from B&H Photo. We are excited to use this new camera, as it is our first stop into the Nikon realm, leaving Canon behind. It was a tough decision, but after many reviews, personal testimonials, and comparing Canon and Nikon, we choose to go with the new leader in photography. Nikon in the past several years has taken on Canon in market share. Nikon offers more features and sharper images for less cost. Canon only updates their products after Nikon has already released new features, then Canon customers demand it. In this case, when we wanted to experience the advantages of a full frame sensor, we decided to go with Nikon instead of Canon. This decision was also costly, as it meant that we had to sell off all of the equipment that we had purchased over the years at deep discount after market prices. However, we can’t be more happy with this purchase and plan on leaning how to fully operate this new camera.

This camera was to replace my previous Canon EOS 7D SLR Digital Camera. My wife Jenny had purchased this camera online from B&H Photo & Video. It had been a good camera, but Jenny and I were ready for a full frame sensor.

Jenny and I made the decision to switch from Canon brand camera products to Nikon brand camera products. It was a difficult decision. Daddy has had brand loyalty to Canon since he learned photography in a two year Photography class at David Crockett High School, working then on a Canon Rebel that shot on film. Since then and many pocket sized cameras, up to our first camera into the DSLR market, the Canon EOS 400D. When SXSW indoor low light shooting conditions required a much higher ISO, we purchased the Canon EOS 7D.

Jenny has taken a larger interest in photography. She has learned all that she can and become the primary photographer for our family, and friends as well. She too is working on her own business, Pretty Paper Photography.

We had sold our Canon 7D camera and most of our lenses, and other Canon equipment over the past few weeks on Craigslist. We have only purchased one lens, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G Autofocus Lens 2180.

So now we can only expect even more high better quality photos in full frame resolution of the Comer children, family, relatives, and new customers at Such Good Photography and Pretty Paper Photography.

New Canon EOS 7D SLR Digital Camera

I got a new Canon EOS 7D SLR Digital Camera for Christmas this year! This camera is a big upgrade from what I had been using. After shooting on the SXSW Photography Crew last year, I struggled in indoor low light shooting conditions. This required a much higher ISO that he Canon 7D provides. As well as a live view mode that would allow me to take photos over my head, so I don’t lose a great opportunity again, as I did photographing Metallica at Stubb’s BBQ.

This camera was to replace my previous Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens. My wife and I had purchased this camera locally at Precision Camera & Video on Black Friday 2007. It had been a good starter camera as I had learned on a Canon Rebel film camera in 2 years of photography classes at David Crockett High School. So naturally I wanted another Cannon. Before this, I had been shooting with a Canon PowerShot SD750 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

So we can only expect better quality photos of the Comer children, family, relatives, and Rock and Roll related shows!
